Start with a plan, not a full truck.
A little preparation makes a weekend project easier to manage.
Observe your yard
Note sun and shade throughout the day, wet spots and existing irrigation.
Measure & sketch
Mark bed dimensions, paths and the space plants need at maturity.
Check before you dig
Arrange utility locating before ground disturbance and review any HOA requirements.
Choose for the site
Match plants to light, soil, available space and the care you can provide.
Estimate your materials
Calculate area and depth; ask us to confirm quantities before ordering.
Work in stages
Start with one bed, prepare it well and plan how you will water afterward.

A conversation is a great place to start
Real help before you take it home.
Bring yard photos, measurements and a few ideas. Our team can talk through suitable plant choices, mature size, spacing and the materials your project may need.
- Photos of the whole area
- Approximate measurements
- Sun and shade notes
- Your budget and maintenance goals
Landscape installation tips you can use.
Good preparation and the right planting depth matter more than rushing to the finish.
Planting beds
- Remove weeds and unwanted debris before starting.
- Check drainage; do not bury an existing water problem under new planting.
- Lay out your pots first so spacing is easy to adjust.
Shrubs & small plants
- Dig a planting hole wider than the root ball.
- Locate the root flare and avoid setting the plant too deep.
- Backfill gently and water the root ball and surrounding soil.
Trees
- Plan for mature roots and canopy—not just the nursery size.
- Keep the root flare visible at or slightly above the finished soil level.
- Avoid mulch piled against the trunk.
Mulch
- Clear weeds and review the existing mulch layer first.
- Keep mulch away from stems and trunks.
- Discuss an appropriate depth for your material and planting.
Sod
- Prepare and level the soil before the sod arrives.
- Fit flat pieces snugly together with staggered seams.
- Follow establishment guidance and current local watering rules.
Irrigation
- Check coverage before installing new planting.
- Look for leaks and blocked or misdirected heads.
- Adjust watering to the plants, weather and applicable restrictions.
These are starting points. Ask for guidance specific to your plants, materials and site. Leave large-tree work, electrical work and tasks beyond your equipment or experience to a qualified professional.
Measure once. Order with confidence.
Use a calculator for a starting estimate, then confirm your materials and quantity with our team.
Rock is sold by the ton; soil by the cubic yard. Volume alone does not determine rock weight—ask us to confirm your quantity.

A little help can keep your project moving
Started the job and need a hand?
Sometimes a project is bigger than expected. Send us photos of what’s done and what’s left. We can discuss help with installation, plant removal, mulch or irrigation repairs.
We’ll review the scope and confirm availability before scheduling.
Your DIY landscaping questions, answered.
Can I get advice and still do the installation myself?
Yes. Bring your photos, measurements and ideas. We can discuss plant choices and materials while you handle the work.
What should I bring when I visit the nursery?
Bring photos of the whole space, approximate measurements, sun and shade notes, and any plant ideas. Tell us your budget and how much maintenance you want to take on.
How do I know how many plants to buy?
Measure the planting area or hedge length. Plant count depends on the species, mature size and planned spacing. Share your measurements so we can discuss a sensible layout before you order.
Which calculator should I use for my project?
Use the sod calculator for lawn area and the mulch calculator for coverage volume. Soil is sold by the cubic yard. Rock is sold by the ton, so ask us to confirm the weight for your chosen material.
Can I pick up plants at the nursery?
Yes. Contact our nursery team to confirm plant availability and pickup arrangements. Plan space in your vehicle and a safe way to transport your plants.
Can you deliver rock or soil for a DIY project?
Yes. Rock and soil are available for delivery or professional installation, with no pickup option. Delivery does not include spreading; confirm access, unloading location, quantity and pricing with our team.
Where can I find watering and maintenance guidance?
Ask our nursery team for guidance for your selected plants and site. Start by checking soil moisture, keeping mulch away from stems and following current watering restrictions. UF/IFAS resources linked above provide additional Florida gardening guidance.
Can your team help if I cannot finish the job?
Yes. Send photos, your address and a description of the remaining work. We’ll review the scope, quote and availability with you before any work is scheduled.

Do it yourself.
You don’t have to figure it out alone.
Start with a visit, a few photos and a conversation with our nursery team.
